Legal Training
The Institute offers basic legal skills and training primarily on areas of law that one is likely to interact with regularly in the professional and social lives.The training may also be a stepping-stone to a diploma or degree course in Law or to careers that offer support services to lawyers or law-makers. It includes the following areas of law:

Policy and Legislative review and analysis
This is the independent review and analysis of legislation or policy and includes:
- The assessment of a proposed law or Act of Parliament for conformity to the Constitution and international instruments ratified by Kenya
- Social and environmental impact analysis of any proposed legislation or policy including likely impact on various social groupings such as women, youth, older persons, differently-abled persons, widows and orphans and any other category likely to be affected by the legislation
- Fiscal analysis of proposed legislation or policy to assess efficacy, efficiency and effectiveness of the same
- Comprehensive evaluation of prospective revenue and expenditures associated with proposed legislation or policy.
- The assessment of the implementation of existing law or policy and/or efficacy of the same, including bench-marks if necessary
- Leadership, Ethics and Integrity Law
- Law of Succession and inheritance
- Procurement Law
- Family Law including mariage and divorce law; matrimonial property law and child Law;
- Analysis of general policy questions or ideas, including limited surveys or benchmarking if appropriate;
- Proposed improvements including mainstreaming cross-cutting issues such as gender, human rights, health, (including HIV/AIDS), environmental concerns and any other issues.
Litigation Support Unit
Due to the volume of work handled by some law firms and legal departments, the Institute offers litigation support services for effective presentation. Litigation Support includes paper-based document management, litigation support software and systems management that include searchable databases for review and production, documents organization and review,
interviewing witnesses.The Institute offers world-class litigation support in the following areas:

This process seeks to ensure efficiency and efficacy in the management of legal documents through cataloging legal documents so they can easily be retrieved, prioritized, arranged or reviewed. The Institute handles project-specific document coding in accordance with the personalized specifications. We have staff trained in and with exceptional qualifications in legal coding. Our team leverages on ICT to offer top of the range user-friendly coding protocols. The services include:
- Data Capturing
- Optical Character Recognition, OCR
- Determining Physical or Logical Document Breaks
- In-Text and Bibliographic Coding
- AI enabled image and handwriting recognition
- Entails the review and analysis of data
- Provision of a synopsis of relevant information to aid in case preparation
Based on client’s specifications, this entails:
- Meticulous and painstaking proof-reading of all the documents for quality-check and to ensure accuracy and high standards of presentation including for citation, typing errors; and grammatical mistakes
- Reviewing the documents for conformity with technical standards
This includes:
- The provision of litigation-support software and systems for efficiency and ease of review and production of documents
- Training law-firms and other contracting agencies on the use of the software
This entails:
- Identifying witnesses necessary for a given case and locating them
- Obtaining information in a lawful and legally permissible manner
- Enabling witnesses to testify in court where necessary
- Assisting in witness preparations before court
- All aspects of case preparation for effective outcomes
The Institute has a pool of litigation support experts include former practicing lawyers with both prosecution and defense backgrounds that can provide legal strategy consulting in anticipation of and throughout litigation.In addition to the broad-based knowledge pool, there are lawyers with expertise in a variety of fields including:

The Institute offers the following:
- Medical Record Review Services especially in cases of workers’ compensation, personal injury, running downs, short-term and long-term disability cases.
- The Medico-legal experts examine the medical reports, offers the clients well researched and reasoned papers to assist in the client’s case.
The Institute offers psycho-social support in cases of crimes against the person especially in family law matters that are often emotive.This kind of support enables the lawyers to only focus on the core legal mandate but with a client that is emotionally prepared for the litigation process.
The Institute can help identify expert witnesses in areas of interest including Medico-legal experts, forensic experts, data analysis experts, algorithm experts, amongst others.
Legislative Drafting Unit
This program has two components, legislative drafting and training.
Helps in design, drafting and follow up of legislative instruments by
- Translating ideas into legislative proposals
- Drafting new laws
- Suggesting amendments to existing laws
This entails training of lawyers engaged in legislative work, Members of Parliament, and County Assembly Representatives.

Legal advisories unit
As part of its diversified portfolio of integrated Legal, Leadership, Innovation and Entrepreneurial services, the MILLIE Institute offers a broad spectrum of Legal Advisory services and technical assistance on the said areas. The Institute draws its strength from a pool of professionals with vast knowledge and experience in the field. Law Division Lead – Jane Enid Murugi
Jane Enid Ganzi Murungi is a lawyer with several years of experience especially in private law. She has an LLB from the University of Nairobi and an LLM in Import and Export Law from Potchefstroom University for Christian Higher Education.She also has a post-graduate diploma from the Kenya School of Law. She is currently undertaking her PhD studies at the University of Nairobi and has been a Shurea Researcher with the Institute for Human Rights, Åbo Akademi University, Finland. Her doctoral research looks into the way Kenya applies the constitutional right to a clean environment in respect of the private sector.
She is a Law lecturer at the University of Nairobi, Kisumu campus. Her focus is in the interactions between international business law, international economic law, international financial law, law and development, and environmental concerns. She also has an interest in human rights law; and international refugee and asylum law, particularly on the question of open borders. She has also served as Advocate of the High Court of Kenya.
