THE CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY DIVISION

The MILLIE Instutue Corporate Social Responsibility Division supports the community through various initiatives including:

  • Providing part scholarships for students.
  • Organizing and supporting community sporting activities
  • Running mentorship programs in schools.
  • General Community Work; building schools; hospitals; religious sanctuaries.
  • Offering pro-bono technical services.
Corporate and Social Responsibility Lead – Brian Weke

Brian Weke brings a wealth of professional and personal experience and knowledge to the Mentorship and Coaching Division of the Institute. He is a lawyer, entrepreneur, politician and passionate social justice advocate with an amazing persona from ‘grass to swivel chair’ story driven with clarity of vision, hard work and resilience.

Brian holds the following academic credentials:

  • A Masters of Science in Organizational Development from the United States International University (USIU)
  • A Bachelors of Business Administration from Limkokwing University
  • A Bachelors of Laws (LLB) from Catholic University for East and Central Africa (CUEA).

Brian has worked primarily in and left an indelible imprint in the Civil Society Sector in the field of constitutionalism; gender; democracy and governance; law of non-governmental institutions; human rights, (with bias to children and human rights); violence against women and girls; strategic management; leadership and personal and organizational development; community development; capacity building; and coaching and mentoring.

Brian started working in the Matatu industry to pay for his Secondary school fees and worked his way up to a Deputy Director of the leading child rights organization, The CRADLE-The Children Foundation. While at The CRADLE, he coordinated two mentorship programs: The Girls Safe Horizon and Letter Link Program, Girls SHALL, that was primarily a mentorship program for girls. This was in several schools in Nairobi, Homabay, Mombasa and other parts of the country. He also coordinated a personal development program, the SHELF, targeting college students and that also provided an intergenerational dialogue between budding leaders and elected leaders. While at The CRADLE, he also served as a member of the Government’s Governance, Justice, Law and Order, Sector Reform Program, (GJLOs), Coordinating Committee. He also served as member of the Technical Committee on Human Rights and Security.

Brian has also served as the Executive Director of one of the most reputable pro-democracy organizations, the Institute for Education in Democracy (IED) where he gained immense experience as an elections expert. As an expert in elections and election processes, he has presided over organizational elections including the FKF (Football Kenya Federation) and PRSK (Public Relations Society of Kenya) Elections. He has also been involved as an observer in elections in different countries and also served as the Chairperson of the Election Observation Group Kenya (ELOG). He has vied twice as a Member of Parliament and though did not make it, had an excellent showing for a young person.

Brian has held different leadership positions. He was the Board member of Child-Line Kenya, an organization protecting children’s rights; He also served as a board member of Human Rights House, a network of CSOs working on human rights. He was a member of the CSO reference group that drafted the Bill of Rights that is entrenched in the Constitution of Kenya.He is currently Chief Executive of Capacity BAC that offers training and technical services on leadership,governance, elections and other matters. He is also a mentor and leadership coach.
